On Thursday afternoon, the Canadian Hockey League, including the Western Hockey League and Spokane Chiefs, paused all operations, including games, in response to the global COVID-19 virus pandemic.

From the WHL:

Western Hockey League Commissioner Ron Robison announced today the 2019-20 WHL season will be paused until further notice.

Following consultation with medical professionals and meetings today with the CHL Board of Directors, it was determined that all hockey activity in the WHL will be paused until further notice.

"Following a conference call with the WHL Board of Governors, the Western Hockey League is announcing today that it will pause the 2019-20 WHL season, effective immediately," commented WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. "The WHL takes the safety of our players, officials, staff, fans, and everyone associated with the WHL very seriously. We will continue to monitor ongoing public health developments regarding COVID-19. Our goal is to return to play when it is safe and reasonable to do so.

"We thank WHL fans and partners for your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented time."

Our top priority at this time is the health and safety of our fans, team and staff.

We are working diligently with the league to understand what this development means for our fans and will provide more information as soon as it becomes available. We encourage fans to check in at our website (spokanechiefs.com) and follow the Chiefs on social media (@spokanechiefs) for updates.

Fans with tickets to the Chiefs' home games on March 13 and/or 14 are asked hold on to those unused tickets and wait for further direction.

We realize you may have questions. Given the unique situation, we ask for your patience as our staff works diligently to provide answers as quickly and effectively as possible.

We appreciate your support and look forward to you enjoying more exciting Chiefs hockey at Spokane Arena again in the future.
