Spokane Beats Portland 6-3

Drayson Bowman scored two goals and the Spokane Chiefs went 4-8 on the power play on their way to a 6- 3 win over the Portland Winter Hawks on Friday night. The win sets up a Saturday night match-up in Tri-City with the Americans. Tri-City was a 4-2 winner over the Kelowna Rockets and the two teams are tied atop the U.S. Division standings with 106 points apiece. The game can be seen live on Comcast Channel 12 at 7:00. Mike Boyle will go on the air on the radio at 6:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight.

Spokane's win also gives them 50 on the season, tying a franchise mark originally set in the 1995-96 season. The Chiefs have also won eight in a row, their second longest streak on the year.

Spokane scored twice in the first, Bowman and Levko Koper, three times in the second with goals by David Rutherford, Bowman and Justin McCrae. Ondøej Roman scored Spokane's lone goal in the third as Spokane outshot Portland 44-25 on the night.

Saturday's game will be the 12th and final meeting of the regular season between the two and will decide who wins the U.S. Division and finishes with the top record in the WHL. The Chiefs have two games remaining as they will play the Winter Hawks on the road Saturday night. If Spokane loses to Tri-City but beats Portland, each team will have 108 points on the season with the Americans earning the tie-breaker based on more wins. If the Chiefs drop a decision in overtime and win on Sunday in Portland, Spokane would finish the year with more points.
