Windsor Spitfires News Release
Due to a scheduling conflict with the Erie Otters, regardless of the outcome in the Spitfires' game tomorrow, Windsor will host game one of the best of seven Western Conference Quarter-Final series against the Erie Otters this upcoming Thursday (March 24, 2011) at the WFCU Centre.
windsorspitfires.com staff reports - Sault Ste Marie, ON
The Spitfires were looking for a better start here in the Soo on Friday night. And even though they didn't get it, a four-goal second period fit the bill nicely.
Tom Kuhnhackl (38), Zack MacQueen (15), Ryan Ellis (23) and Jake Carrick (22) scored in a 16-minute span of the middle frame, as the Spitfires (38-23-3-3) beat the Greyhounds 4-2 at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste Marie.
The win gives the Spits a chance to clinch fourth place in the Western Conference and home ice advantage in a first-round series with Erie tomorrow in Saginaw. Windsor and Erie remain tied with 82 points, but Erie beat Saginaw 4-2 tonight in Michigan and the Otters have played all 68 of their regular season games. Erie's win tonight over Saginaw guarantees that Windsor and Erie will play each other in the first round of the 2011 OHL Playoffs.
Tickets for round one, games one and two at the WFCU Centre can be purchased from the TekSavvy.com Box Office (Gate 2 of the WFCU Centre), by calling (519) 254-5000 or by visiting windsorspitfires.com. The remainder of the Spitfires schedule for their first round series against Erie will be announced following the conclusion of their game tomorrow.
The Spits can clinch fourth with a single point or better Saturday night at the Dow Events Center.
We'll be back at it with a full preview tomorrow morning, including gameday video. Our live game blog coverage begins from Saginaw around 6 o'clock with pre-game notes.
