Windsor Spitfires News Release

It was a game we had to have.

And thanks to some big individual performances, it's one we got.

Chris Marchese had a pair of goals, Saverio Posa had a goal and two assists and Jaroslav Pavelka was outstanding in goal, as the Spitfires topped the Greyhounds, 5-3, in a key Western Conference battle at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste Marie on Friday.,

Ben Johnson and Kerby Rychel had the other goals and Pavelka made 28 saves, including about a dozen jawdroppers, as Windsor (18-19-3-1) moved into a tie for sixth in the Western Conference with the Greyhounds.

Marchese got us off to a big start, scoring on the power play at 4:20 of the first period to give us a 1-0 lead. 'Cheese' was right back at it exactly four-and-a-half minutes later, picking up a loose puck deep in the Soo zone before sliding it under Murray for a 2-0 lead.

Ben Johnson and Nick Cousins exchanged goals in the opening minute of the second period, before Cousins added his second of the game and 20th of the season just before the midway mark.

Rychel's goal, the eventual game winner, restored our two-goal lead seven minutes into the second period.

Posa capped his three-point night with his third goal of the year into an empty net with 1:04 to play.

The win snaps our five-game losing streak.

We're headed to Sudbury tomorrow, ahead of a Sunday matinee game with the Wolves.
