
Saginaw Falls to Plymouth 4-3 in Shootout

The Saginaw Spirit lost Saturday night 4-3 in an overtime shootout to the Plymouth Whalers. Saginaw came from a goal down in each period to tie the score but could not get ahead despite outshooting Plymouth 47 to 35.
Plymouth scored the first goal at 3:56 of the first period, a power play goal by Mitchell Heard, his 20th of the season, assisted by Schmitz and Devane. Saginaw's Vincent Trocheck answered at 11:53 with his 20th goal of the year, assisted by Eric Locke and Garrett Ross. The even strength goal came just as the Whalers finished killing off a penalty. The score was tied at 1 at the end of the first period.
In the second, Plymouth out shot Saginaw 17 to 8, but fine play by netminder Jake Patterson kept Saginaw in the game. Plymouth went ahead on a power play goal by Jamie Devane, with assists going to Aleardi & Noesen at 11:27. Saginaw answered back in less than a minute on a goal by Josh Shalla, assisted by Brendan Saad. The score was tied 2 to 2 at the end of the second.
In the third, Plymouth again went ahead on Jamie Devane's 2nd goal of the night, assisted by Aleardi & Bathgate at 1:08. Saginaw's Michael Fine scored 10 seconds later, with assists going to Josh Shalla and Dalton Young. The score at the end of the third period was knotted at 3 apiece. In overtime, neither team scored, sending the game to a shootout.
In the Shootout, Plymouth's Andy Bathgate scored the game winner as the 7th shooter, with Plymouth's Mitchell Heard also scoring. Vincent Trocheck scored in the shootout for Saginaw.
