Erie Otters News Release
Erie, PA - The Erie Otters took a two-goal lead into the third but couldn't hold on as the Kitchener Rangers stormed back with four goals in the final period to defeat the Otters, 6-4, at Tullio Arena Saturday night.
Jake Evans put the Otters on the board 12:39 into the contest as he took a pass from Sondre Olden and one-timed the puck through the blocker side of Franky Palazzese for his third goal of the season.
After Zack Lorentz would tie it up for the Rangers, the Otters regained the lead at 17:30 when Mike Cazzola fired a shot from the bottom of the right circle for his second goal of the season. Ben Fanelli tied the game for Kitchener 70 seconds later to make it 2-2 going into the second.
Just 37 seconds into the second, Dane Fox scored his first goal as an Erie Otter as he banged in a rebound from a Nathan Glass shot. Fox's 14th tally of the season gave the Otters a 3-2 lead.
Soon after the Fox goal, there was a 25-minute delay as there was a problem with the glass next to the Rangers bench.
The Otters kept the momentum going after the delay, eventually earning a two-man advantage. Troy Donnay would score with seven seconds left on the power play as he fired a shot through the glove of Palazzese at 13:44. The goal was Donnay's first in the OHL.
In the third period, the Rangers took advantage of Erie mistakes and ran away with the third period despite Erie controlling most of the play. Matia Marcantuoni scored two of the four goals in the third for the Rangers, including the game-winner with 4:32 left to play to give Kitchener the victory.
Cazzola led the way with a goal and two assists, while Fox had a goal and an assist. The Otters went one-for-three on the power play and killed off all three Kitchener power plays.
The Otters hit the road for a three-game swing, starting with the first of back-to-back games Friday night against the Owen Sound Attack at 7:30 p.m. Fans can listen to the action on JET Radio 1400.
