
5th Annual McVi Shocks & Saves Charity Game to Fight Heart Disease

SAGINAW, MI - The 5th annual Michigan CardioVascular Institute Foundation's Shocks and Saves ¢ charity game, presented in partnership with Mobile Medical Response (MMR), and the Saginaw Spirit will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 4:30 PM at The Dow Event Center, prior to the Spirit's home game against the London Knights.
Local physicians will skate with local emergency medical personnel in a fun-filled game that features the talents of Detroit Red Wings alumni. Tickets are $10 and include admission to the Spirit game. They can be purchased by calling the Saginaw Spirit group sales office at
(989) 497-6506 or at the Spirit store.
Proceeds from Shocks and Saves ¢ and an auction of hockey memorabilia, including an autographed Jimmy Howard Red Wings jersey, autographed Igor Larionov wine, a Lidstrom-signed puck and more will be used to:
- Create an army of first-responders by providing free CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) training to more than 500 people. The first community CPR blitz date is February 26 at the YMCA of Saginaw.
- Place automated external defibrillators (AED) in public locations.
- Work with area schools and athletic groups to prevent student deaths from sudden cardiac arrest.
- Create a CPR manikin-lending library.
Following the Shocks and Saves ¢ game, all are invited to the Blue Line Club for a short presentation recognizing local heart disease survivors including, but not limited to:
- Maddie Owens - A 10-year-old sudden cardiac arrest survivor saved by her father who performed CPR until the paramedics arrived and defibrillated her.
- Leo Staudacher - A Bangor Township resident who was saved with bystander CPR and the use of an AED during the University of Michigan/Notre Dame football game in the Ann Arbor stadium.
- Richard Browne - An 87-year-old who has survived multiple cardiac events over the past 30+ years.
- Paula Davis Rowley - A mom who survived a heart attack at the young age of 42.
