
Spitfires Fall in Overtime 7-6 to Niagara

The Spitfires were looking for back to back wins for the first time this season. They had the lead late in the third period but were unable to hold it and ultimately fell in overtime.
In the first period, it was a back and forth affair as both teams traded chances. The IceDogs were able to score first, it was the rookie Roobroeck with his 4th of the season. Less than two minutes later, the Spitfires would respond Walton sent the puck down low and it bounced off the end boards and towards Spellacy and he scored his first of the season. The see-saw continued three minutes later as Niagara would respond and go up 2-1. Just about five minutes later, Christopoulos buried his own rebound and tied the game at 2. Davis and Peer had assists on the play. Late in the period, the IceDogs scored to take a 3-2 lead heading into the break. Shots were 16-15 in favour of Windsor.
In the second period, the Spitfires found their legs and scoring touch. They scored three unanswered goals from Greentree on the powerplay, Peer and Dionicio to take a 5-3 lead heading into the third period.
In the third period, the IceDogs scored just 27 seconds in and shorthanded to pull within one. Just over three minutes later, the Spitfires were able to respond as Abraham scored his 2nd on the season on the short-side. In the final 7 minutes of the third, the Spitfires would collapse and give up two goals and the IceDogs would tie the game at 6. We were headed to overtime.
In the overtime frame, the IceDogs would set a pick/interference play and capitalize on the missed call and scored to take the game by a score of 7-6.
The Spitfires have a few days of practice before the next game on Thursday November 2nd when the Kitchener Rangers come to town. Puck drop is scheduled 7:05pm.
