Saginaw, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit (4-4-0-1) face off against the Sarnia Sting (6-5-0-0) in their second matchup of the year on Friday, October 28th, at the Dow Event Center.

Last Time:

The Saginaw Spirit lost to the Soo Greyhounds in a shootout Friday, October 27th by a score of 5-4. Michael Misa opened up the game scoring with his third goal of the year. From there, the Greyhounds would go on and score four unanswered into the early second period. Ethan Hay scored his third goal of the season and first with the Spirit. Braden Haché scored his second goal of the season in the second period with assists from Michael Misa and Matyas Sapovaliv. The third remained scoreless until Michael Misa scored the game-tying goal to send it into overtime with just 5.6 seconds on the clock. However, the Spirit would fall to the Greyhounds in a shootout. Nolan Lalonde started for the Spirit, saving 22 of 26 shots on net.

Sarnia fell to the Windsor Spitfires on Friday, October 27th, by a score of 4-2. Zach Filak was first to score with assists from Sandis Vilmanis and Jacob LeBlanc. Tyson Doucette then scored his eighth goal of the year with Jacob LeBlanc getting his second assist of the night and Marko Sikic picking up a helper as well.

Season Series:

Saginaw's first win of the season was against Sarnia on September 30th by a score of 2-1. Jacob Cloutier and Joey Willis scored their first goals of the season in that game. Hunter Haight, Calem Mangone, Valentin Zhugin, and Luke McNamara all finished the night with assists as well. Andrew Oke started in net and saved 24 of 25 shots for the Spirit and Nick Surzycia saved 28 of 30 for the Sting.

Players to watch:

Hunter Haight leads the Spirit with 13 points (5G, 8A) after picking up a pair of helpers last night against the Soo. Valentin Zhugin leads the Spirit in goals with six (6). Andrew Oke currently leads the team in goals against average (GAA) and save percentage (SV%) at 2.68 and .894.

Tyson Doucette holds the Sting lead with eight goals on the season, coupled with five goals for 13 points. Jacob LeBlanc and Sandis Vilmanis each hold a team-best 11 assists. Nick Surzycia has played in all but one game this season and has a 3.40 goals against average (GAA) and a .892 save percentage (SV%).

Saginaw currently has six (6) players with ties to the National Hockey League (NHL), including Joey Willis (Nashville), Matyas Sapovaliv (Vegas), Hunter Haight (Minnesota), Braden Haché (Florida), Nolan Lalonde (Columbus, FA), and Ethan Hay (Tampa Bay).

Sarnia currently has one (1) player drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL) in Sandis Vilmanis (Florida).
