Barrie Colts News Release

A two goal third period by the Windsor Spitfires lifted them over the Barrie Colts 4-3 in Windsor.

Thursday night served as the first game of a 3 game road trip the Colts were on this weekend.

The opening period didn't see a whole lot of action, but it was the boys in blue taking a late lead. Riley Piercey got the puck in the offensive corner and threw a pass in front of the goal that was tipped by Luke Bignell for his 2nd goal of the season. Aidan Brown collected the second assist.

In the 2nd period, the Spitfires were able to tie things up on a goal by Luke Kutkevicius that found a loose puck and put it by Jet Greaves who had no chance to make the save as he was on his back.

It didn't take long for Barrie to take the lead right back. It all started with a great hustle play by the newest signed Buffalo Sabre, Matej Pekar who won the race to a puck in the Windsor zone and then he found Ben Hawerchuk wide open in front who one-timed it past Michael DiPietro to take the 2-1 lead. The goal was his 6th of the season.

A bit later it was Bignell striking again. Brown and him were on a shortened two on one and Brown moved the puck over for Bignell to put his 3rd of the season into a wide open cage to extend the Barrie lead.

The Spitfires would add another to make it a one goal game into the second intermission.

In the final period the home team were able to march back and take the lead.

First it was Connor Corcoran scoring just over three minutes into the period to tie the game. Just under five minutes later they would take their first lead of the game and the eventual game winner by Chris Playfair.

The Colts are back in action tomorrow night as they head to Saginaw to continue their road trip before finishing it off in Flint on Sunday afternoon.
