Saginaw Spirit News Release
THIS WEEK IN SPIRIT HOCKEY:
The Spirit played the best of the West and the East this weekend at The Dow Event Center. On Saturday night, Saginaw welcomed in the CHL's top team, the Erie Otters and the Eastern Conference leading, Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday night, action at The Dow Event Center started with the 9th Annual Guns and Hoses
Classic. Local Firefighters and Police Officers battled on the ice to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. To date the charity event has raised nearly $80,000.
The Spirit scored three unanswered goals, including two second period goals 59 seconds apart to hold off the Spirit, 3-2. Saginaw got goals from Mike Davies (2) and Artem Artemov (7) in the losing effort. Goaltender Evan Cormier was spectacular, stopping 37 of 40 shots from the Otters.
On Sunday afternoon, the Spirit wrapped up their season series with the Barrie Colts. Lead by the stellar goaltending of Mackenzie Blackwood, the Colts thwarted a Spirit third-period comeback and held on for a 5-3 decision. Saginaw was led by two goals from Dylan Sadowy (10,11). Mike Davies notched his second goal in as many games. San Jose prospect Kevin Labanc had two goals and two assists to lead the way for Barrie. The Colts were helped by two shorthanded goals in the contest.
NEXTEER AUTOMOTIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
This week's Nexteer Automotive Player of the Week is Spirit Forward #93 Mike Davies! Davies joined the Saginaw Spirit just last week and has already recorded 2 goals and 1 assist this past weekend! In front of a home crowd on Saturday vs the Erie Otters, Davies recorded his first goal and assist in a Spirit uniform. The newly acquired forward continued to play well in front of his new home crowd by recording another goal on Sunday vs the Barrie Colts.

A Heart Like Mine:
Spirit Defenseman, #65 Will Petschenig has created a special project for children that have lost a parent. The 20-year-old defensemen extends a warm and welcome invitation to a family who has lost a parent each Saginaw Spirit home game, to enjoy a first class experience at the Dow Event Center. "Will's Warrior" and their family are given free tickets to the game, as well as a meet and greet with Will, himself.
Petschenig, whose late father Dan played for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League from 1985-1987, changed his number to his father's #65 when he was traded to the Spirit in June.
Petschenig not only hopes to create an amazing experience by inviting these children to Spirit games, but to continue in being a role model for these kids, the way other OHL players were for him when he was young.
