Spirit Triumph Over Bangor

Lynn, MA – The North Shore Spirit defeated the Berkshire Black Bears 6-4 on Tuesday night at the New Fraser Field in Lynn. Klae Calvert earned the win for the Spirit pitching eight innings, fanning five and allowing nine hits. Joe Ricciardi got the save, his fourth of the season.

Berkshire came out swinging, scoring two solo homeruns in the first two innings. P.J. Johnston and Manny Crespo put the Black Bears ahead 2-0 with both their homeruns sailing over the left field fence.

After second inning singles by Eddie Muth, Fran Riordan and Jason Startari, Lynn native Yuri Sanchez singled into left centerfield for the RBI. The Spirit continued their powerful hitting in the fourth inning when Eddie Muth had a base hit and was waved home on a Yuri Sanchez triple. Sanchez went 2-3 for the night with two RBI and a run scored.

John Schmitz put the Spirit ahead with a two-run homerun, his first of the season. Schmitz finished 2-4 with 2 RBI and two runs scored. In the seventh inning, Mike Tejada and Schmitz had back-to-back doubles to put the game out of reach for Berkshire. The Spirit finished with 12 hits overall.

Two-time Northeast League "Pitcher of the Week" John Kelly (5-0) takes the mound for the Spirit on Wednesday night and will face Berkshire's Tony Harden (4-1). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.

Game two of the four game homestand is Wednesday night. Once again there will be a raffle for the new Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Two copies will be raffled off during the game. Raffle tickets cost $1.

Following the game will be an extraordinary laser light show to celebrate Independence Day at Fraser Field.
