Bears Establish Homerun Record in 14-5 Victory

NEWARK, NJ, July 1-The Newark Bears established a new franchise record by hitting six home runs in the team's 14-5 victory over the Pennsylvania Road Warriors Tuesday night at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The Bears swept the three-game series from Pennsylvania and are now 29-27 on the season.

Wil Quintana and Eddie Lara each hit two home runs for the Bears. Quintana was 3-5 with his 13th and 14th home runs on the season and 5 runs-batted-in. Quintana leads the Atlantic League with 48 RBI this year. Lara finished the night 3-3 with his 2nd and 3rd home runs and 2 RBI.

The Bears put the game away scoring 3 runs in the 7th inning and five more in the eighth. In the 8th inning Jay Laflair connected for a two-run blast, his first home run of the season, and Michael Coleman unloaded a tape-measure three-run shot, his 8th of the year.

Elvin Nina (1-2) picked up the win for the Bears, allowing 5 runs over five innings of work. Calvin Maduro and Hut Smith each followed with two scoreless innings. Maduro struck out four batters.

Javier Sein paced the Road Warriors offense, going 3-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Gustavo Escobar was 2-3 with 3 stolen bases and an RBI.
