Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Quebec les Capitales scored early and often, routing the Allentown Ambassadors 14-2 Tuesday night in Allentown.

Quebec scored in every inning except the sixth, and got their lead-off man on-base in six out of nine innings, including the first five. Quebec would get one in the first, followed up by three in the second, with a bases loaded, two out, two run single from Osmani Garcia providing some of the damage off Ambassador starter Reed Harvey. Another run scored in the third, and another in the fourth off Harvey.

That was the end of his outing, with four of the six runs earned. Mike Riley came in and gave up two in the fifth. A single by Eddie Lantigua followed by a double from John Ballon, then two walks loaded the bases. Benoit Emond was hit in the head on a two-two pitch from Riley and was down on the ground for a couple of minutes. He left the field under his own power, recording an RBI on the play.

Riley gave up another in the seventh before giving way to Orlando Encarnacion, who allowed two runs to score in the eighth after getting the first two men out. Two singles from Rafael Pujols and Asdrupal Oropeza, followed by a triple from Jake Burnham accounted for the runs. Tom Klemm came in and gave up three runs in the ninth inning to close the scoring.

The Ambassadors got a run in the bottom of the first on two doubles, one from Jorge Diaz and one from Vic Davilla. The other run came in the fifth inning. A Julio Acosta double, then a Diaz single to drive him in. Other than that, Quebec starter Lance Franks pitched well in eight innings, allowing two runs on nine hits, walking none and striking out 5.

Every Quebec starter had at least one hit, and five had two or more. Oropeza was 4-5 with three runs scored, a double, one RBI, and a walk. L'Italien was 3-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and two walks. John Ballon finished 3-4 with three runs scored, three doubles, two RBI, one hit by pitch, and one walk. Garcia had three runs driven in.

The win is the third of the season for Franks, while Harvey takes his second loss. The Ambassadors fall to 14-20, while Quebec improves to 17-21. The two teams finish the series tomorrow night. It is Uncle Baseball's Birthday Party, so all the kids in attendance get a piece of birthday cake.
