Spirit Sweep Season Series Against Majors Following 4-2 Victory

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit bested the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors Saturday night 4-2 in regulation, with the win seeing Saginaw sweep the season series between the two teams. Tyler Murovich earned the games first star honors with a goal and two assists and rookie Vince Trocheck earned the second star honors with three assists. The win gives Saginaw 64 points and a record of 29-24-4-2, good for the seventh place seed in the OHL Western Conference. The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Erie Otters are tied for the fifth place seed with 65 points; both claimed victory Saturday night as well against their respective opponents. The Owen Sound Attack lost in a shootout to the Kitchener Rangers Saturday, keeping them in eight place with 59 points.

Mississauga Majors center Jordan Mayer opened scoring with a power play goal at 7:01 in the first, assisted by center Casey Cizikas (NHL New York Islanders) and defenseman Blake Parlett. It was the lone goal of the period, but the Spirit quickly rebounded in the second with two straight goals. Spirit center Michael Sgarbossa tied the game at one apiece with his nineteenth goal of the season at 14:16, with the assists coming from winger Michael Kantor and center Tyler Murovich. The Spirit added one more late in the period, with winger Jordan Szwarz (NHL Phoenix Coyotes) notching a goal with :32 seconds remaining to give Saginaw a 2-1 lead. Center Vince Trocheck and Murovich earned assists on the goal.

Murovich continued to contribute up front, adding a power play goal to the score sheet to open the third period and advance Saginaw's lead to 3-1. Defenseman Jordan Hill and Trocheck earned the assists. The Majors came back late in the third, with Cizikas scoring at 17:36 off of assists from wingers Devante Smith-Pelly and Riley Brace. The Spirit put the nail in the coffin with Szwarz scoring an empty net goal in the last :15 seconds, assisted by Trocheck. The goal saw Saginaw seal the victory by a score of 4-2.

Spirit goalkeeper Edward Pasquale (NHL Atlanta Trashers) posted 34 saves on 36 shots, while Majors goalie J.P. Anderson tallied a total of 32 saves on 35 shots.
