Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Saginaw, MI- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors will be returning home from a three game road trip with no points, after dropping their third game in Saginaw tonight, 4-2. The loss drops the Majors to 37-16-4-2 on the season.

The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors came into tonight's game looking to salvage a win after dropping the first two of the current road trip. They took the lead after one but let it slip away to drop all three on the road swing and their past four games in total. After failing to score on several power play opportunities last night the Majors opened this one with a power play goal at 7:01 of the first period courtesy of Jordan Mayer to make it 1-0 Mississauga. Casey Cizikas made a great pass to Mayer at the front of the net and Mayer converted the chance to give the Majors the lead. Majors netminder JP Anderson was busy in the first period making several key saves to preserve the scoreline for the Majors.

The teams exchanged chances to begin the second period of play as Anderson and Edward Pasquale of Saginaw continued to make important saves for their sides. Michael Sgarbossa tied the game at the 14:16 mark of the second period after beating Anderson and putting it past the Majors goaltender. Jordan Szwarz scored his first of two on the night at 19:28 of the second to give Saginaw the lead, 2-1. Vincent Trocheck beat the Majors defence and passed the puck out front to Szwarz, who shovelled it past Anderson. The Spirit took the 2-1 scoreline into the second intermission.

Tyler Murovich and the Saginaw power play unit put the Spirit ahead 3-1 at 4:35 of the third period. Anderson robbed Trocheck just moments before and was tested again before Murovich shot it past Anderson on the near side giving Saginaw a two goal advantage. Casey Cizikas pulled the Majors to within one after putting the puck past Pasquale to make it 3-2. Devante Smith-Pelly was a big reason for the goal after rushing to the net and leaving the puck on the lip of the crease for Cizikas to put away. The comeback attempt was ended at 19:45 when Jordan Swarz scored his second of the game with an empty netter, making the final 4-2 for Saginaw. Edward Pasquale earned the victory for the Spirit stopping 33 of the 35 shots he faced. JP Anderson was equally as strong for the Majors but takes the loss after stopping 33 of 36 shots.

The Majors will return to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Belleville to meet the last place Bulls at the Yardmen Arena, game time is 7:05 p.m. Following the game the Majors will play their next four-of-five games at the Hershey Centre. On Friday, the Majors will welcome the Brampton Battalion for a 7:30 p.m. start. On Sunday the Double Blue will host the Oshawa Generals with a special 12:00 Noon start time.
