Saginaw Spirit News Release

Saginaw, MI - The Saginaw Spirit (9-7-1-0) return to The Dow Event Center for three straight games beginning Saturday night, Nov. 27 against the Windsor Spitfires (8-8-0-2). The Spirit wrapped up a four-game road stretch Friday night with a 6-5 victory over Windsor, picking up two wins and two losses in that stretch. Saginaw remains one of the best road teams in the OHL with a 6-3-1-0 record away from The Dow Event Center.

Friday night, the Spirit held on for a wild 6-5 victory in the first of eight meetings in the 2021-22 season. Trailing 2-1 in the second period, the Spirit scored five straight goals to tie a season-high in a single period (Nov. 5 at Sarnia) and take a 6-2 lead. 2022 NHL Draft eligible Pavel Mintyukov scored a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to five straight games, while Josh Bloom's shorthanded goal in the second period gave him five on the season and was the Spirit's eighth as a team, both tops spot in the 20-team, Ontario Hockey League.

Fresh off a comeback victory of their own last Sunday against Flint, the Spits put a huge push on in the third and scored three goals in just under 7:00 to get within one. That's when the Spirit clamped down defensively and 2022 NHL Draft prospect Andrew Oke shut the door in goal for Saginaw. Oke made 25 saves on 30 shots and the Spirit held on for a 6-5 win.

The Spits have not lost on the road in the month of November, posting a 3-0-0-0 mark so far. Their last trip to Michigan proved to be fruitful with a 7-0 whitewash of the Flint Firebirds on Nov. 20.

The Spits are led by the scoring prowess of three, high-end NHL prospects in Will Cuylle (NYR), Wyatt Johnston (DAL), and Pasquale Zito (DET), while undrafted veterans Kyle McDonald, Matthew Maggio, and Daniel D'Amico also sit in the team's top 10 in scoring. Windsor has also found strong contributions from rookies Ryan Abraham and Ethan Miedema to lead their charge offensively. Only the Soo, London, and Guelph have scored more goals this season than the Spitfires in the Western Conference.

The Spirit's next home contest will be Thursday, Dec. 2 when they welcome the Flint Firebirds, as the Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup continues. The Spirit lead the season series, three games to one. Student and Military rush tickets will be available for only $7 with proper identification. For more information, log on to saginawspirit.com.
