Erie Otters News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - After an electrifying win over the Soo Greyhounds on the 46th Annual Thanksgiving Night game, the Erie Otters would return home on Saturday night hosting the surging Guelph Storm. The anticipation would be cranked up to 11 for fans and players alike, with the night being the 13th Annual Teddy Bear Toss game to benefit the Salvation Army of Erie. The Otters would be looking to score not only often, but early, to appease the fans and bears alike.

It wouldn't take long in the game for the scoring to start. Just 3:41 into the contest, Guelph's Danny Zhilkin (9) would get one to the back of the net to give the Storm an early lead. With the big theme of the night being thrown stuffed animals, the Teddy Bear tossing goal would go to Brendan Sellan (5), finding a loose puck on the goal line from a Christian Kyrou shot. Thousands of bears would rain down onto the ice, with all the bears going to benefit those in need in the Erie community. Just under six minutes later, the surging Otters offense would have Cameron Lowe (3) see a great shot kicked in from Guelph's Supryka. Erie would jump out to a 2-1 lead, which they would finish the period with. Shots 11-11.

With a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes, the Otters would succumb in the second period to a very strong Storm rush. Walking out of the period with 18 shots under their belt, the Storm would end up finding the back of the net twice, as Matthew Poitras (6) would knot things up 2:04 into the new frame. With a 2-2 game, the Storm would continue to put their pedal to the metal, and find a highlight-reel goal from Braeden Bowman (9) would put Guelph back on top with just over six minutes to go in the period. With a number of penalties against, the Otters would find themselves with plenty of time in the box, and being outshot in the frame 18-6. Erie would have 1:57 of bleed-over penalty time into the third.

Erie would have their opportunities to tie it in the third period, with two power play opportunities including a five-minute major against Ben McFarlane, but the Guelph backcheckers and penalty killers would be able to kill off the Otters' opportunities and take the win from the road. Guelph would earn their 12th of the season with a 3-2 downing of Erie at home, outshooting the Otters in the game 39-27.

The Otters hit the road tonight headed for the Storm City, looking to close out the weekend with a Sunday afternoon affair in the Sleeman Centre against the same Guelph Storm. Erie will have a quick turnaround after their first of five road games, hitting the road again on Wednesday for a long Canadian road trip that starts in Windsor on Thursday and ends in Hamilton on Sunday. The Otters won't return to the friendly confines of the Erie Insurance Arena until December 11th.
