
Spirit Fall to Pioneers

The North Shore Spirit took one on the chin last night verses Elmira at New Fraser field in Lynn by the score of 7-0. Elmira the top hitting team in the North East League belted two homers and once again got solid pitching from their ace Brian Edmondson (4-1).
The Pioneers scored the only run they would need in the first of Spirit starter and loser Mike Hoyt (0-2). A lead off walk to Cleatus Davidson and a Rolando Bello RBI double spotted Elmira to 1-0 lead.
Meanwhile Edmondson allowed the Spirit just two first inning hits. Edmondson worked seven full innings before retiring for the night. Edmondson gave up two hits walked three and struck out eight batters to win for the fourth time.
Elmira added two more runs in the fourth inning on a Brian Jones homer (5th) and a Ryan Lehr RBI double.
In the seventh, Rafael Alvarez clouted a two run homer (6th) and Alex Marconi knocked in two more with a triple.
On the Spirit bright side Eddie Muth continued to heat up at the plate going 2-4. John Schmitz had the other North Shore hit.
Hoyt worked six innings allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out nine. Nate Beucler and Chad Bircher worked the final two innings for the Spirit.
The Spirit loss and Pioneer win puts both teams' records at 15-13. The two clubs play game two of their four game series Tuesday at the New Fraser Field in Lynn. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
