
Spirit Fall in Divisional Game to Sting

The Saginaw Spirit took on the Sarnia Sting on Saturday night, falling at home 8 -7. This was our Pay It Forward Jayden Style Night and had over 5600 fans in attendance!
The Western Conference teams gave their fans a strong opening period. The Sting scored first on a play by Craig Duininck, his 8th of the season, with assists coming from Bryan Moore and Nick Latta. Chicago Blackhawks prospect, Garret Ross, with his 41st of the season, fired back with a wrist shot that shocked Sting goaltender, Knick Dawe, which was assisted by Andrey Alexeev and Dalton Young. Then, Brandon Lindberg broke the tie to give the Spirit a small lead, his 8th of the season; the assists came from Gregg Sutch and Zach Bratina. The Sting fired back to tie the game on a goal by Mike DiPaolo, his 1st of the season, with assists coming from Alexandre Renaud and Craig Duininck. The period ended tied at 2.
Both teams came out with a solid effort in the second, however, Jimmy Lodge broke the tie early in the frame, on a chip - in, his 25th of the season, on the power play which was assisted by Spirit Captain Garret Ross and Eric Locke. The Sting fired back on a goal off Reid Boucher's stick, on the power play, his 58th of the season, with assists coming from Anthony DeAngelo and Charlie Sarault. The Spirit followed with two more goals. The first was an unassisted tally from Zach Bratina, his 6th of the season, which was followed by a good finish from Terry Trafford, his 9th of the season, assisted by Nick Moutrey and Buffalo Sabres prospect, Justin Kea. The Sting would then add five to their score; the first tally by Alex Carnevale, his 3rd of the season, with assists coming from Tyler Hore and Anthony DeAngelo. Reid Boucher, his 59th of the season, and Nikolay Goldobin, his 27th of the season, added unassisted goals to the Sting's lead. Daniel Nikandrov added a power play goal, his 6th of the season, from Nick Latta and Tyler Hore. Less than 10 seconds later, Reid Boucher added another goal to close out the frame, his 60th of the season, also gaining a hat trick, which was assisted by Bryan Moore and Charlie Sarault. The period ended Sarnia 8 - Saginaw 5.
The Spirit and the Sting came out strong in the third, however Jimmy Lodge was able to add to Saginaw's total on a power play, his 26th of the season, assisted by Eric Locke and Grant Webermin. Gregg Sutch concluded the scoring for the period, his 4th of the season, assisted by Jake Ringuette and Eric Locke. The Spirit also changed goaltenders this period from Jake Paterson to Nikita Serebryakov. The game ended Sarnia 8 - Saginaw 7, with the shots on goal Saginaw 45 - Sarnia 21.
