Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - The Generals won their 4th game in a row on Friday night, beating the Brampton Battalion 3-2 in a nail biter at the GMC, before a crowd of 5,790. Tied in the third, Tyler Biggs provided the late game heroics, scoring the power play winner at 16:55. Boone Jenner had his 4th multi-point game in a row, and scored his 40th goal in the win.
In the first period, both sides showcased their fire-power, trading goals on slap shots, exiting the frame tied at 1 apiece. Boone Jenner kicked off festivities by scoring his 40th of the season on the power play, a booming blast that beat Matej Machovsky from the high slot at 6:52. Cole Cassels set the table, and with the goal, Oshawa's captain registered his 11th point in 4 games. Even more impressive, Jenner's tally marked the 10th time this season that # 22 has notched the opening goal of the game, making him the league leader in that category.
Quick to respond, the Battalion got even with a rocket of their own. Pouncing on a loose puck just inside the blue line, Brandon Robinson rifled his 16th past Daniel Altshuller at 9:31, starting the game anew.
Aside from the 2 goals, the opening twenty was defensive in nature, with Oshawa outshooting Brampton, 10-8.
Both sides stuck to the script in the middle frame, exchanging goals and sending the fate of the game to the third, deadlocked at 2.
Brampton captured their first lead of the contest, grinding out the 2-1 marker at 3:06. Operating in tight quarters, Barclay Goodrow whacked his 33rd of the season through Altshuller's wickets, putting the Battalion on top.
Lucas Lessio had an answer, squaring it up with his 12th at 5:57. Using the defender as a screen, Lessio cut to the middle and wired a wrist shot that fooled Machovsky, knotting the game at 2.
Altshuller was outstanding in the frame's final minutes, stoning Blake Clarke's breakaway attempt, and going coast-to-coast to stop Mathew Santos, who fired from point-blank range. Through 2 periods of play, shots favoured Brampton by the slimmest of margins, 18-17.
In the final period, Matt Petgrave was strong on the back end, making a game-changing, diving poke-check on Goodrow, who came close to walking in all alone.
Crisis averted, the Generals seized the day on the power play, with Tyler Biggs striking for his 25th at 16:55. Pouring down the right side, Jenner found Biggs, who drove to the net with his stick on the ice and promptly potted the game winner. Jenner's assist gave him 4 straight multi-point games and 12 points over that stretch.
Oshawa swept the three-star-selection with Jenner, Altshuller and Scott Laughton taking home the honours. Shots finished dead even at 23 apiece.
Oshawa's home-stand continues this Sunday March 3rd when the Generals take on the division-rival Kingston Frontenacs in a 2:05 PM matinee at the General Motors Centre. Come cheer on the Gens as they jockey for a top playoff position during this final stretch-drive. Remember, you only have 2 more chances to see the Generals in action at the GMC before the playoffs begin!
