Miguel Marichal picked up the loss for the Spirit, his first of the season, giving up five runs in the seventh inning. Tony Harden got the win for New Haven and Shane Waroff got the save.
The Spirit took an early lead in the first inning with doubles by Nilson Teilon and Rob Fischer and a single from Frank Charles, scoring two runs. The Cutters retaliated with a run in the second, but they wouldn't score again until the fifth inning.
The Spirit scored two additional runs in the second inning off a Marcos Agramonte triple, his third of the season, and singles from Vic Davilla and Teilon. Down 5-1 in the fifth, the Cutters put three runs on the board to catch up to the Spirit. However, Davilla got his bat going and hit his league-leading, sixth homerun of the season for 2 RBI.
It was in the seventh inning that the Cutters took the lead and never looked back. A three-run homerun by Adam Shorsher, and doubles from Hector Lebron and Ryan Kane put the Cutters on top.
The Spirit scored one run in the seventh inning and could only tack on one run in the ninth before succumbing to New Haven. Nilson Teilon went 4 for 5 for the Spirit with three singles and a double. The Spirit are currently 7-4 for the season.
