June 9, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release
The North Shore Spirit, backed by a near flawless pitching performance from Klae Calvert (1-0), shutout visiting Allentown 1-0 Monday night at the New Fraser Field in Lynn. Calvert, making his second start of the season, scattered four hits over nine innings striking out nine Ambassador batters.
The only run of the game came on an Ambassadors error in the seventh inning, when Allentown SS Ender Gonzalez booted a Jason Startari grounder that allowed Spirit 1B Fran Riordan to score.
Ambassador pitcher Nolan Fry was also outstanding in the no-decision; shutting down the Spirit offense for six innings before giving away to the eventual loser Wade Clark (0-1).
Tomorrow, the Spirit will send to the mound ace John Kelly (2-0) and Allentown will send Carlos Gonzalez (1-0) to face the Spirit.
Tomorrow is Citizens Bank 2-for-1 night at Fraser Field. Gates open at 6:00 pm and first pitch is 7:00 pm.
