Elmira left fielder Rafael Alvarez and North Shore right-hander John Kelly were named the Daktronics Northeast League Players of the Week on Monday for the period ending June 8.
Alvarez posted five two-hit games and hit .520 (13-for-25) during the week with eight runs, five doubles, two home runs and nine RBIs. Alvarez, from Venezuela, is playing his second season in Elmira. He played seven years in the Minnesota Twins organization before playing in Mexico, Allentown and Fargo-Moorhead in 2001.

Kelly, who played last year for Codogno in Italy, continued his dominance of Northeast League hitters with a two-hit shutout versus Quebec on June 5. He did not walk any batters and struck out eight to improve his earned run average to 0.44 for the season. He has allowed only one run this year that came versus Brockton in his first start.
