Ambassadors Shutout by Spirit

June 9, 2003 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors were shutout by Klae Calvert and the North Shore Spirit and lost a heartbreaker to the Spirit 1-0 Monday night in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Nolan Fry and Klae Calvert matched zeros through six innings, but Wade Clark could not keep step in the seventh, coming in relief for Fry. He was let down by the Ambassador defense. A lead-off single to Frank Charles followed by a throwing error from Greg Schmidt on a possible double play ball and then a walk to Eddie Muth loaded the bases. Clark then got pinch hitter Mike Tejada to hit into a double play, with a great play at first from Ryan Bordenick. But Ender Gonzalez then committed an error on a ball hit to him at short to allow Riordan to score the only run of the game. Clark gets the loss, his first, allowing the one unearned run. Calvert got his first win and first shutout of the season. He struck out 9. Fry got a no-decision with six innings pitched, two hits and three walks.

The two teams play each other again tomorrow in the second of three here in Lynn.
