Former Met to Sign Autographs at Jacks Game

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks, a proud member of the Northeast League, announced today that former New York Met and Milwaukee Brave Carlton Willey will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Lumberjacks June 15th game against the Brockton (MA) Rox.

Willey, a native of near-by Cherryfield, broke into the majors with the Milwaukee Braves in 1958 and shutout the Giants in his first start. The rookie went 9-7 with a 2.70 ERA that season and led the National League with four shutouts. Willey had his contract purchased by the Mets in 1963 where he led the club with four shutouts and a 3.10 ERA that season. Carl hung his spikes up after the 1965 season with 867 career innings in the big leagues, compiling a 3.68 ERA and a record of 38-58.

Willey will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the Jacks game against the Brockton Rox at 2 PM. The right-hander will then be available for autographs. Gates for the game open at 1 PM.

The Jacks have an off-day Monday before beginning a three game series in Quebec on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks return home Friday, June 13 to begin a seven game home stand. Friday is Halloween Night at Mahaney Diamond. Come dressed in costume for your chance to win great prizes as well as a free reserve ticket for a future Lumberjack game.
