Spinners Ride Five-Run Sixth, Go-Ahead Ninth Inning Single to 7-6 Victory

Staten Island, N.Y. - Going into the top of the ninth inning, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, sat tied with the Staten Island Yankees, affiliate of the New York Yankees, at six runs apiece.
After Nick Decker doubled to lead the inning off, he was quickly taken out in favor of pinch-runner Luke Bandy. Bandy moved up on a ground ball by Alex Erro but stayed put when Antoni Flores struck out to put two away in the inning.
Gilberto Jimenez took the first pitch he saw, however, and took the ball the opposite way for a single, scoring Bandy, and catapulting the Spinners (33-28) to a 7-6 victory over the Yankees (32-28) at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Lowell got on the board in the top of the first inning when Stephen Scott doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by 2019 NYPL All-Star Joe Davis.
Staten Island rallied back, scoring three in the bottom of the fourth - two coming on a two-run double Pat DeMarco and the other coming when Jerry Seitz reached on an error by Nicholas Northcut.
They kept pouring it on in the bottom of the fifth when Ezequiel Duran launched a solo home run, putting the Yankees ahead 4-1.
The rest of the game was all Lowell, however, as the Spinners erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning - all coming off home runs.
The first home run came off the bat of Scott, a solo shot over the right field. Four batters later, Wil Dalton launched his second professional home run over the left field fence - scoring Northcut and Davis and giving Lowell a 5-4 lead.
Four pitches later, Nick Decker made it back-to-back home runs - launching his sixth home run of the season over the right field fence and giving the Spinners a 6-4 lead.
Staten Island scored two in the bottom of the sixth inning and the rest of the game is history.
Offensively, Scott led the way going 3-for-5, falling a triple short of the cycle and finishing with seven total bases.
Noah Song got the start for Lowell and he spun a gem in the limited time that he did pitch. The 4th-round selection tossed a career-high three shutout, no-hit innings walking one and striking out six batters (also a career-high).
The win went to Bryan Lucas - his fifth of the season. He went 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on five hits. He also struck out three.
Ryan Fernandez picked up the save, his fourth of the season, allowing one hit and striking out one. He also didn't allow a run or a walk.
The Spinners are back home on Saturday night, when they take on their Stedler-Divison foes in the second-place Connecticut Tigers with a 3.5 game lead in the division after the Tigers fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades at Dodd Stadium on Friday night.
