Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - On Harry Potter Day at LeLacheur Park the Lowell Spinners wizardry was too much for the Vermont Lake Monsters as they used an offensive onslaught to come out victorious, 7-1, on the penultimate game of the 2015 season Sunday afternoon.

Lowell (37-38) scored in the first inning for the second straight game. After a one-out double by Chad De La Guerra, Josh Ockimey gave the Spinners a 1-0 lead with a two-out single.

Vermont (32-42) pulled even in the fourth inning on a two-out double by Ryan Howell to tie the score at one.

The Spinners re-took the lead promptly in the bottom half of the inning after back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. An Austin Rei single gave the Spinners a 2-1 lead and a wild pitch by Corey Miller pushed the lead to 3-1.

Lowell broke the game open in the sixth inning with a four-run outburst. Tyler Hill led off the inning with a single and stole second and third base. After a walk by Rei, a pair of strikeouts left runners on the corners with two outs. Rei stole second and De La Guerra was walked intentionally to load the bases, as Spoon delivered a two-run single and Ockimey followed with a two-run double of his own to make it a 7-1 game.

Logan Allen made his Spinners debut, allowing one run on six hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out two while throwing 50 of his 75 pitches for strikes. Logan Boyd (4-0, 2.85) picked up the win, stranding a pair of inherited runners while going 3.1 scoreless, striking out three. Yankory Pimentel closed out the win with a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a pair.

Ockimey, who was 11-for-33 with 9 extra-base hits in 9 games against Vermont entering today, continued his onslaught against the Lake Monsters with another two-hit game, doubling and adding three RBI. Spoon added his second straight two-hit game, driving in a pair, while Roldani Baldwin and Mitch Gunsolus each finished with two-hit games as well.

The 2015 season comes to a close for the Spinners Monday afternoon when the two teams meet for a 1:05 first pitch. Dioscar Romero (3-3, 3.91) will get the ball for Lowell, as they look to finish the season at .500.
