Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (9/6/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Aberdeen IronBirds by a score of 4-0 on Sunday evening at Dutchess Stadium.

The first four innings went by scoreless as Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Benton Moss (2-3) and Aberdeen's Cristian Alvarado (3-2) kept both offenses in check. The Renegades had an opportunity to score in the bottom of the fourth inning as the bases were loaded with no outs. But Alvarado struck out Hudson Valley's designated hitter Nic Wilson and induced second baseman Oscar Sanay into an inning-ending double play.

Aberdeen's designated hitter Randy Gassaway and right fielder Oswill Lartiguez each singled to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Gassaway scored as third baseman Alejandro Juvier singled and moved to second on a fielding error. Center fielder Cedric Mullins brought home both Lartiguez and Juvier on a two-run double, giving Aberdeen a 3-0 lead.

The IronBirds extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the sixth inning as catcher Alex Murphy doubled to lead off the inning and came home to score on a RBI sacrifice fly from pinch hitter Ryan Mountcastle.

Alvarado earned the victory for Aberdeen as he tossed five shutout innings and struck out three batters. Moss took the loss for the Renegades as he allowed four runs off eight hits in five and a third innings pitched.

With the result, the Renegades see their record fall to 38-37 while Aberdeen improves to 40-35.

Notes: Hudson Valley relief pitcher Brandon Koch pitched the final two innings of Sunday's contest and did not allow a run while striking out four batters. The Plano, Texas native has struck out 25 batters in 15 innings over his last eight appearances for the Renegades, a stretch that dates back to August 9th.

Hudson Valley concludes their three-game series against Aberdeen on Monday, September 7th at 6:35 pm. Monday is "Goodnight Hudson Valley Night" at Dutchess Stadium and fans can enjoy a fireworks show after the game. Call 845-838-0094, or visit www.hvrenegades.com to purchase your tickets now.
