State College Spikes News Release

-SPIKES FACE JAMMERS IN RUBBER MATCH TONIGHT: The State College Spikes bid for sole possession of first place in the Pinckney Division tonight as the Jamestown Jammers head into Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the final game of a three-game series. The teams have split the first two games. The visit to Central PA is the first by the Jammers since becoming the Pittsburgh Pirates' affiliate. State College is 32-40 all-time against Jamestown, with a 16-20 record in games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. All previous matchups against the Jammers came when Jamestown was affiliated with the Miami Marlins.

-LAST NIGHT: Chris Perry earned his first professional victory with seven shutout innings on the mound as the Spikes topped the Jammers, 6-0, on Monday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Perry, the Cardinals' 17th-round draft choice in 2012, held Jamestown to just two hits, one walk and a hit batsman in his time on the mound. The outing was the longest for any State College pitcher since Kyle McPherson went seven innings against Williamsport on September 2, 2009. Jimmy Bosco also smashed his first professional home run for State College as part of a multi-hit night.

-HERGET LEADS SPIKES MOUND TANDEM TONIGHT: Right-hander Kevin Herget, who earned the win for the Spikes in his first pro appearance this past Wednesday, will be the first pitcher on the mound tonight as State College employs a "piggyback" setup. Herget went 3 1/3 scoreless innings to notch the victory against Williamsport at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Kean University (NJ) product will be followed by left-hander Jimmy Reed, the 2013 sixth-round draft choice of the Cardinals out of Maryland, who began the game for the Spikes on Wednesday and tossed two innings before reaching his pitch limit.

-NEVERAUSKAS HEADS TO HILL FOR JAMMERS: Left-hander Cody Dickson gets the ball for Jamestown tonight in the finale of the three-game series. The Pirates took Dickson with their fourth-round draft choice in 2013 out of Sam Houston State University in Texas, where he went 9-5 with a 4.26 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 95 innings as a junior. The Arlington, TX native also ended his college career on a 28-inning scoreless streak. Last time out, Dickson tossed three scoreless innings and allowed just one walk while striking out six Williamsport batters during the start.

-HEY, I KNOW YOU: Jammers manager Dave Turgeon returns to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for this series after skippering the Spikes in 2012. Jamestown pitching coach Mike Steele also comes back to State College after serving as Spikes pitching coach from 2009-2010. Plus, nine players listed on the 2013 Jammers roster (Lance Breedlove, Kevin Kleis, Jared Lakind, Dovydas Neverauskas, Isaac Sanchez, Francisco Aponte, Yhonathan Barrios, Jodaneli Carvajal, Jimmy Rider and Jesus Vasquez) saw action for the Spikes in 2012.

-SPIKE MARKS: Ronald Castillo (.394) is now second in the NYPL in batting average, Jimmy Bosco (.367) is now sixth, and Cesar Valera (.345) is now ninth...Castillo's 13 hits lead the league...Bosco's nine runs are also first in the NYPL & his .633 slugging percentage is third...The Spikes are hitting .285 as a team to lead the NYPL
