State College Spikes News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - State College Spikes bats were held nearly silent on Wednesday night, as the Jamestown Jammers held them to just two hits and became the first team to hold the Spikes scoreless this season in a 6-0 win at Russell Diethrick Park.
Adalberto Santos and Kyle Saukko were responsible for the State College (6-7) base hits on the evening, with Santos extending his streak of consecutive plate appearances reaching base to nine by adding three walks as well. The game also marked the first time the Spikes have been held to less than two runs in one contest in 2010.
Jamestown (8-5) took the lead early, as Ryan Fisher delivered a two-run triple in the first, followed by an RBI single from Sequoyah Stonecipher. Wilfredo Gimenez also aided the Jammers offense with a solo home run to left in the fourth inning.
Brooks Pounders (1-2) started and took the loss for State College, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five. Pounders also retired seven straight batters from the second through fourth innings.
In his first professional appearance, Jamestown reliever Grant Dayton (1-0) earned the win with three no-hit innings. An Auburn alum, Dayton walked one batter and struck out one in relief of starter Saul Gonzalez, who allowed both Spikes hits.
State College returns home on Thursday to meet the Williamsport Crosscutters and resume the 2010 SawBuck Series at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The 7:05 p.m. matchup will feature right-hander Kevin Decker (0-0) going for the Spikes against an as yet unnamed Crosscutters starter. Decker has faced the Batavia Muckdogs in each of his last two outings, going a total of seven innings with a 5.14 ERA.
Families can come out and enjoy a Kids Eat Free Thursday at the park, presented by Dairy Queen Grill and Chill. All kids ages 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a free hot dog, chips and soda. In addition, former Penn State defensive star and current Kansas City Chief Tamba Hali will be on hand. Hali will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, be a guest on the Spikes GameDay Show, and sign autographs from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. It's also 00's Night at the park, with gates opening at 6 p.m. (5:50 for season ticket holders). For ticket information, call the Spikes Box Office at 272-1711, visit the Box Office in person at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, or log on to StateCollegeSpikes.com.
