Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - One night after walking 13 batters and giving up 11 runs, Jamestown's pitching silenced State College and the bats struck early in a 6-0 win at Diethrick Park.

Starting pitcher Saul Gonzalez and two relievers combined on a two-hit shutout in which no Spikes runner reached third base until there were two outs in the ninth inning. Gonzalez, filling in for the injured Albaro Estevez, was solid in his first start of the season. He pitched four innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out one batter.

Grant Dayton came on in relief to pick up the victory on his first day as a member of the Jammers. Dayton and pitcher Jeremy Heatley arrived in Jamestown earlier in the day, and immediately the left-hander was called upon to pitch. He delivered with three no-hit innings, allowing one walk and striking out one batter.

Jordan Conley came on to record the final six outs, allowing one walk and recording one strikeout.

Jamestown's bats went to work early in the game, providing plenty of run support for the trio of pitchers. The Jammers scored three times in the first inning off starter Brooks Pounders, who allowed four runs in four innings of work.

Noah Perio singled with one out in the first inning and Marcell Ozuna was hit by a pitch, putting two men on base. Ryan Fisher delivered with his third triple of the season, scoring Perio and Ozuna to give the Jammers a 2-0 lead. Sequoyah Stonecipher followed with an RBI single to score Fisher and put Jamestown up 3-0.

Wilfredo Gimenez hit a solo home run to left field in the fourth inning to put Jamestown in front 4-0. In the fifth, Ozuna tripled in Brent Keys and Fisher followed with his second hit of the game, an RBI single to score Ozuna and make it 6-0 Jammers. Fisher hit a double leading off the eighth inning to finish 3-for-4 on the night.

The Jammers sit atop the Pinckney Division, one game ahead of second-place Williamsport. Jamestown heads to Mahoning Valley to take on the Scrappers for three games before returning home for three against the Cyclones. Tomorrow's game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 pm.

NOTES: Fisher's day raised his average to .356, and he now leads the team in doubles, triples, home runs (tied with Ozuna and Gimenez) and RBIs (14)...Gonzalez lowered his ERA to 2.08...Conley's two shutout innings of relief give him seven scoreless innings pitched to start the season in six appearances...Estevez was placed on the 7-day DL retroactive to 6/28 prior to the game.
