Johnny Pesky Appearance, Navy Bobble Head Highlights Military Night and Spinners July 1-3 Americana

LOWELL, MA - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will kick off their second homestand of the 2010 season with an early start to the July 4th holiday weekend featuring a salute to America and the military, with Johnny Pesky Navy Bobble Head Giveaway night, including an appearance from Mr. Red Sox himself!

The Spinners return to LeLacheur Park Thursday, July 1 for a brief three-game homestand against the Vermont LakeMonsters.

Highlighting the series is the Spinners Military Night is an appearance by Mr. Red Sox, Johnny Pesky, who will be honored with a bobble head to be presented to the first 1,000 fans through the gates.

Pesky, who has been honored with a Pesky Poll Bobble Head and a number retirement ceremony at LeLacheur Park the previous two years, will be in attendance to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Following a standout rookie season in 1942, where Pesky recorded 205 hits, he enlisted in the navy, where he served three years in the prime of his career.

"Had Johnny Pesky not missed those three seasons serving his country during World War II, there is no doubt in our minds he would be in the Baseball Hall of Fame," said Spinners Vice President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "We are thrilled to welcome Johnny back to LeLacheur as part of our Military Night festivities for a part of Johnny's career that is a little less known."

As part of the evening the Spinners will also welcome the USS Constitution Color Guard will present the colors and the 195th Army Band will perform the National Anthem. Prior to the game Thomas Hudner, a United States Navy officer who received America's highest military decoration - the Medal of Honor - for his actions in the Korean War, will join Johnny Pesky in throwing out a ceremonial first pitch.

Lastly, the Operation Home Ties: Faces of a Remembrance, a traveling tribute wall by Gina Johnson, will be on display on the concourse.

"We cannot thank the members of the military and their families enough for their service to our country," said Bawmann. "We look forward to honoring these individuals throughout the weekend."

The celebration will continue July 2 with Americana Night and brought to a conclusion with post-game fireworks following the Spinners Saturday, July 3 game. Tickets are still available online at www.lowellspinners.com or by calling the Box Office at 978-459-1702.
