
Spikes Stretch Record Road Win Streak to Eight, Top Doubledays, 2-0

AUBURN, N.Y. - Franyel Casadilla and Troy Montemayor combined on a three-hit shutout as the State College Spikes extended their winning streak on the road to a franchise record eight games with a 2-0 victory over the Auburn Doubledays on Saturday night at Falcon Park.
The Spikes' (25-30) bested their previous best road winning streak of seven in a row, set from July 22-July 4, 2016.
Cameron Knight's two-out, two-run single in the third inning with the bases loaded provided the only runs of the game. The hit accounted for Knight's first two RBI with State College.
Casadilla (2-1) yielded three hits and three walks over seven innings of work to begin the shutout. The right-hander also struck out three batters and retired the last 11 he faced on the night.
Montemayor (1) recorded his first professional save by facing the minimum six batters over the last two innings. The Baylor product, who set a school record for saves during his collegiate career, yielded one walk and struck out one batter.
Justin Toerner and New York-Penn League All-Star Nick Dunn each delivered multi-hit games for State College.
Auburn (30-23) starter Tim Cate (2-3), the Nationals' 2018 second-round draft choice, took the loss. Cate yielded both Spikes runs on a total of four hits and five walks over three innings. The University of Connecticut product also struck out three batters in the effort.
Sunday, the Spikes and Doubledays meet at 2 p.m. at Falcon Park for the second game of their two-game mini-series. State College will send right-hander Michael Baird (1-2) to the mound one start after he recorded his first professional win. Auburn will go with right-hander Reid Schaller (1-0).
It all leads up to the 2018 New York-Penn League All-Star Game presented by the Central PA Convention & Visitors Bureau on Tuesday, August 14. The All-Star festivities begin with the NYPL All-Star Tailgate Gala presented by Reinhart Foodservice on Monday, August 13, and then ballpark gate open for the NYPL All-Star Game at 3 p.m. on the 14th, with the chance to get autographs from the All-Stars and watch batting practice.
An array of stars led by team captains Ki-Jana Carter and Josiah Viera, plus gridiron greats Blair Thomas and Wally Richardson as well as a cavalcade of legends and celebrities will hit the field for the Celebrity Softball Game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday night.
The All-Star Game will then get underway at 7:05 p.m., with the showcase event followed by a fantastic FIREWORKS show presented by the Central PA Convention & Visitors Bureau.
