WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The State College Spikes took the lead Friday night on Nathan Church's second home run of the Major League Baseball Draft League season and didn't look back, with Damiano Palmegiani also homering and Richie Holetz leading a quartet of pitchers that held the Williamsport Crosscutters to four hits in a 12-2 win at Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.

Church's solo shot with two outs in the first off Williamsport (12-9) starter Nick Cosentino (2-2) jumpstarted the Spikes (9-12) offense, and Palmegiani's solo homer to start the second kicked off a four-run frame. Church collected a total of three runs batted in over the course of the evening, and Palmegiani, who is committed to continue his college career at Arizona, also delivered a two-run single in the fifth for a three-RBI night.

Matthew Ellis, who is committed to Indiana, also contributed to the Spikes' scoring outburst by going 2-for-4 and knocking in two runs. Kenny Piper drove in a run and notched two of the Spikes' four stolen bases. State College put up three crooked numbers, with four-run innings in the second and seventh and two in the fifth.

On the mound, Holetz (1-0) made the Spikes' offensive efforts stand up with an outstanding outing. The right-hander from Omaha yielded just one hit in his first four innings while retiring 13 straight batters at one point. Holetz's nine strikeouts matched a single-game season high for any State College hurler, and he allowed just one run on two hits and a walk over five frames for the win.

Andrew Moore and Drew Garrett followed with three scoreless, hitless innings, two for Moore and one for Garrett, before Mason Mellott finished the game. Spikes pitchers struck out a total of 16 Crosscutters batters in the game.

Cosentino took the loss after allowing five runs on four hits, two walks and two hit batsmen. The right-hander recorded three strikeouts in the effort.

The Spikes will look to keep the momentum going as they head back to Muncy Bank Ballpark on Saturday night for a 7:05 p.m. matchup that will serve as the middle game of a three-game set with the Crosscutters. Left-hander Connor Oliver, a product of Wabash Valley (Ill.) Junior College who is committed to TCU, is set to make his first start for State College against an as yet unannounced Williamsport starter.

Following Saturday's game, the Spikes and Crosscutters come back to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to tangle at 4:05 p.m. on Father's Day at the Ballpark.
