Keys and Thunder Combine for 30 Runs, Frederick Tallies 12 Hits for 2nd Time in 2021

Frederick, MD - The Frederick Keys and Trenton Thunder combined for 30 runs in a 17-13 Thunder victory on Friday night at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys outhit their opponent and lost for the third time this season. The Keys threw a season high seven pitchers, walking a season high 17 batters.

Trenton opened the scoring in the second, scoring six runs on two hits in the inning. The Thunder walked six consecutive times to begin the frame as Keys starter Will Stevens was knocked out of the game.

Frederick tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the 2nd to make it a 7-2 game. After leading off with a walk, Tremaine Spears scored on a double by Eddie McCabe. The hit to left center was the first extra base hit for McCabe this season. Newcomer Zach Dezenzo singled home McCabe in his first at-bat as a Key.

The Thunder scored five more times in the 3rd inning. The biggest hit was a home run by Daryl Myers, a three run shot that gave Trenton a 10 run advantage. The two teams combined for four home runs in the game, the most in any Keys game this year.

Mason Auer knocked his first blast of the season over the left field wall in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring Tyler Doanes who led off the inning with a double. Paul Komistek was singled home by Tremaine Spears later in the inning to make it a 12-5 game.

Trenton again homered in the 4th, this time a leadoff homer by Andrew Cossetti. Three more walks in the inning allowed the Thunder to tally four times in the frame coming home on wild pitches twice.

Frederick's biggest inning of the game came in the 4th as the Keys tone was set by McCabe who led off the inning with a walk. Dezenzo blasted his first home run of the season, on a ball that carried to right field. The Keys rally continued as Doanes picked up a one out single. Auer added a single of his home and the pair would score on a single by Zac Fascia.

Frederick scored 13 runs in the game on 12 hits, marking the third game this season that the Keys picked up 10 or more hits. It was the best offensive game for the Keys, however the pitching staff struggled with control in the game.
