Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has announced that The Long Beach Ice Dogs' beloved Mascot, Spike, has been arrested and put into jail. Bail has been set at $2,400.
Spike was arrested by the MDA Officers at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Long Beach after a long stand-off. Spike has been charged with running around without a leash, chasing neighborhood cats, and scaring the local mail man. Spike had been on the loose for weeks, but he finally turned himself in after he was surrounded by the Authorities that were staked out in front of his favorite fire hydrant.
Spike needs your help!!! His bail has been set at $2,400 (just enough money to send four kids to MDA summer camp). Every dollar raised will go directly to MDA to provide much needed assistance to over 6,000 Southern California Families.
To contribute to Spike's legal fund, the Ice Dogs will donate $50.00 on any new season ticket package purchased through the end of September to MDA. (season ticket packages start as low as $300)
"I miss the hockey rink and my Ice Dog Family," said Spike. "It gets very lonely here behind bars, I promise not to chase any more cats when I am released. Please help post my bail money for a good cause."
For more information on how you can contribute to Spike's Bail Money fund please email info@icedogs.com or call MDA directly at their Long Beach Office at 562-498-4923. Spike has 30 days to cover his bail. If not, Spike will have to serve his full jail sentence as handed out by Judge Ray Mean. However, Spike will be allowed to attend his community appearances, but only under the watchful eye of the MDA Officers.
MDA serves people in our community with neuromuscular disease by providing clinics, support groups, assistance with the purchase and repair of wheelchairs, braces and communication devices, and summer camp for kids. MDA also funds research grants to help find treatments and cures for some 43 neuromuscular diseases that affect people of all ages, right here in our Long Beach community.
Opening night is Friday, October 20th, versus the Idaho Steelheads at 7:30 PM. Season tickets for the 2006-07 season are on sale now, and can be secured by depositing just $100 per seat. Call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com for more information.
