Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Hockey season is about two months away and by now you already know how the Bakersfield Condors playing schedule looks. But now the fun part, announcing promotions and special events for the home games.
The 2006-07 season is once again loaded with tons of giveaways and special events. There are still a handful of more events to be scheduled, and a complete list will be released in September.
It all starts at the Home Opener on Friday, Oct. 20 with the Magnetic Schedule Giveaway. That will immediately be followed by a Trick-or-Treat Bucket Giveaway the next night, Saturday, Oct. 21.
Some of the more popular returning giveaways will be a Condors Team Poster (Nov. 3), Dodgeball (Nov. 4), Backpack (Jan. 6), Bobblehead Doll (Feb. 9), Youth Jersey (Feb. 24) and Cap (March 23).
Also returning for the upcoming Condors season will be Dora the Explorer (Dec. 2), the ZOOperstars (Jan. 26) and SpongeBob Squarepants (March 17).
The Condors have met the challenge with new giveaways for the 2006-07 season, featuring a Condors Expand-A-Scroll (Nov. 10) and Hard Hat (April 6), in addition to the previously mentioned Trick-or-Treat Bucket on Opening Weekend.
Two other new promotions will feature an appearance by Nickelodeon's Diego (Dec. 16) and the return of the Blues Brothers Act (March 31), which will be their final hockey appearance ever. The Condors previously hosted the Blues Brothers Act during the 1999-00 season, which resulted in the second-largest crowd in club history (8,864).
The second annual Field Trip & Businessperson's Special is Tuesday, Nov. 14 and will be a special 10:30 a.m. start, ideal for an extended lunch break and a great opportunity for school children to take part in unique lessons and projects with hockey as a backdrop. Kids will receive educational packets linking hockey to classroom subjects, such as math, science and history. Teachers or principals interested in having their school come out should contact the Condors at 324-PUCK (7825).
Special charity promotions will again fill the Condors' home schedule, as they will host jersey raffles and auctions (Veterans Day - Nov. 11 and St. Patrick's Day - March 17) and the eighth annual Teddy Bear Toss (Nov. 25). The Project Warm Families Coat Collection, the Condors' longest running charity event, will take place on Nov. 21.
"Providing the community with the best entertainment possible in CondorsTown is a top priority for us," President Matthew Riley said. "Each season we try to one-up ourselves and we can't wait to announce the completed list next month once we've finalized some more details."
