Niagara IceDogs News Release
St. Catharines, Ontario - The Niagara IceDogs will be welcoming a couple special guests for their Thanksgiving Monday game on October 13th. Local Olympians Tonya Verbeek (wrestling) and Melanie Kok (rowing) will be in attendance for a special pre-game ceremony to celebrate their medal winning performances at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. They will also be available in the South concourse during the first intermission to meet with fans and sign autographs.
A native of Beamsville, ON, Verbeek trains with the Brock Wrestling Club at Brock University in St. Catharines and is coached by Marty Calder. She won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in freestyle women's wrestling in the 55kg category and followed that up with a bronze medal at the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Born in St. Catharines, ON, Kok is a part of the Ridley Graduate Boat club. As a member of the Canadian women's lightweight doubles team, Melanie paired up with partner Tracy Cameron to bring home the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Games.
In addition, the IceDogs will be hosting a food drive prior to Monday's game with all proceeds being donated to Community Care and Project S.H.A.R.E. To help entice fans to assist with this great cause during the holiday weekend, the IceDogs have agreed to provide any fan who donates a non-perishable food item on the day of the game with a coupon for $10 tickets to Monday's game versus the Peterborough Petes.
Fans are also reminded that IceDogs Family Fun Packs are still available. For only $99, you will receive 4 tickets to each of the following games: October 13th, October 25th, and November 23rd. To purchase your pack prior to Monday's game, please contact Wade Graham at (905) 687-3641 x224 or (289) 407-2913. Family Packs will also be available at the Box Office on Monday afternoon starting at Noon.
Puck drop is scheduled for 2pm with doors opening one hour prior. Great seats are still available and can be purchased at the Customer Service Desk of the Pen Centre in St. Catharines or Seaway Mall in Welland, through all Ticketmaster outlets and at the Gatorade Garden City Complex Box Office starting two hours before puck drop.
