
Sparks Forward Candace Parker Named Western Conference Player of the Week

Los Angeles - Sparks forward Candace Parker was named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played July 1 through July 7, 2013.
The Player of the Week award is Parker's second of the season, and twelfth of her career. Averaging 21.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists, she led the Sparks to a 3-0 week in which Los Angeles outscored its opposition by an average of 21.6 points. The 3-0 marked helped the Sparks improve its undefeated record at STAPLES Center to 8-0.
In the Sparks 96-66 win over Minnesota on July 2, Parker matched her season-high in points with 27, adding eight rebounds. She did it again on July 4, grabbing eight rebounds in addition to 20 points, five assists and three blocks in the 97-89 home victory over the New York Liberty. Parker's 20 points vs. New York achieved her third consecutive game scoring 20 or more points. She wrapped up the Sparks three-game home stand with 18 points - 14 in the third quarter - and nine rebounds in the 93-66 win over San Antonio on July 6.
Parker leads the Sparks in points (17.7 peg), rebounds (9.1 rag) and blocks (2.67 pg) and is second in assists (3.7 apt) through 12 games played, all starts. Currently she ranks in the top ten among league leaders in blocks (second), rebounds (fourth), and points.
Elena Delle Donne of the Chicago Sky was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
