Sox Shut Down Cubs 5-1;Remain 1 Game Out of 1st

The Sky Sox pitching shut down the Iowa Cubs bats on Thursday night in a 5-1 Sox victory but failed to gain ground on Central leading Albuquerque with their 2-1 win over Omaha. Jason Young, who had not pitched since August 9th due to a strained muscle, started the game but pitched just 1 inning in an attempt to get back into game form. Chris Gissell came on for Young in the 2nd and pitched 7 solid innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 8 and walking only 1. Wendell Magee was 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI for the Sox and Clint Barmes hit his 7th home run of the season to lead the Sox offense. The Sox come home to Sky Sox Stadium tonight for the start of a 4-game series against the Omaha Royals in an attempt to take over the Central lead. The Sox will send Scott Elarton (6-7, 5.32) to the mound tonight to face the Royals Sean Lowe (3-0, 3.15).
