Edmonton Trappers News Release

Following tonight's game, the Montreal Expos purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Chad Cordero from Single-A Brevard County and optioned right-handed pitcher Roy Corcoran to Edmonton. The Expos also transferred third baseman Fernando Tatis from the 15- to the 60-Day Disabled List. Vice President and General Manger Omar Minaya made the announcements.

The Expos' top selection in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft (20th overall), Cordero went 1-1 with six saves and a 2.08 ERA in 19 games out of the bullpen for Brevard County of the Single-A Florida State League. Cordero becomes the second player-Cincinnati right-handed pitcher Ryan Wagner was the first-from the 2003 First-Year Player Draft to reach the big leagues. After signing with the Expos on June 27, Cordero limited opposing Florida State League batters to a .198 mark and struck out 17 in 26.1 innings. Cordero, 21, last pitched on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-0 Cordero finished 5-1 with eight saves and a 1.58 ERA in 40 games out of the bullpen this season for Cal-State Fullerton. In nearly three complete seasons, Cordero went 12-8 with 34 saves in 111 career games with the Titans. Cordero's 34 career saves led all active college pitchers this season and are a school record.

Corcoran, 23, posted a 1.23 ERA in five games out of the bullpen for the Expos after having his contract purchased from Double-A Harrisburg on July 27.
