Sidewinders Get Pounded in Sacramento

Sacramento knocked out Tucson starter John Patterson with a seven-run fourth inning Thursday night on the way to an 8-2 win over Tucson at Raley Field in front of 13,025. Sacramento won four of five games in the series to drop the Sidewinders back to the .500 mark at 70-70.

Patterson needed six innings to qualify for the Pacific Coast League ERA crown. The right-hander allowed a run in third inning on one single as the River Cats tied the game at 1.

In the fourth, seven runs scored on six hits, two walks and two errors. Four of the seven runs were unearned. Patterson went 3.2 innings, allowing five hits, eight runs, four earned. Patterson exited the game after Mike Edwards bases loaded triple emptied the bases.

Tim Olson drove in the first run on the game for Tucson with a second inning fielders choice that gave Tucson a short lived 1-0 lead. Olson also homered in the fifth inning for the Sidewinders second run.

Sacramento won seven of the last nine games against Tucson to win the season series nine games to seven. The River Cats also improved to 91-49.

Tucson fell to 70-70. The Sidewinders return home for a four-game series with Fresno beginning Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Mike Gosling (9-11 5.50) will start for Tucson against the Grizzlies Elliot Brown (2-3 5.59).
