Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox (4-2, 32-12) put up six runs in the eighth inning, en route to an 11-6 victory over the Canadians (3-4, 25-19) Sunday night in front of more than 3,500 fans at Memorial Stadium. The Sox offense combined for 14 hits, tying their season-best for most hits in a game.

Second baseman Brock Hebert got things started in the eighth with a leadoff double, followed by back-to-back bunt base hits by Janelfry Zorilla and Mike Faulkner to load the bases with no outs. Jamodrick McGruder tied the game with a groundout to score the first run of the inning. Shortstop Ketel Marte gave the Sox a 7-6 lead when he laced one to right field for a double.

Still in the eighth, with two outs and first base open, Vancouver chose to intentionally walk Mike Zunino to load the bases once again. Taylor Ard followed by working a walk to earn an RBI and increase the Frogs' lead to 8-6. Up next was Patrick Kivlehan and he perfectly timed a curveball, sending the pitch out to left field to knock in another run. Catcher David Villauso capped the five-run inning with a double that plated Ard and Kivlehan, giving the Sox a commanding 11-6 lead going into the ninth inning.

Ard and Zunino both hit a home run in the game. Ard's homer came in the fourth inning, giving him seven on the season to tie teammate Kivlehan for the league lead. Zunino's two-run blast came in the seventh inning, marking his second homer in two straight games and sixth of his young season (just 17 games).

The C's jumped ahead early, taking a 6-0 lead after two innings of play, but AquaSox relievers Ambirios Hidalgo, Oliver Garcia and Blake Hauser combined for 7.2 scoreless innings to limit further damage and allow the Frogs to make a comeback.

Hidalgo struck out seven batters in 4.2 innings of relief. The right-hander from the Dominican Republic extended his scoreless-inning streak to 11.2 innings with his performance Sunday.

Sox reliever Oliver Garcia (2-0, 4.50 ERA) recorded the win, while left-hander Kyle Anderson (2-2, 5.85 ERA) earned the loss for the C's.

The AquaSox are off Monday before traveling to Eugene for a three game series with the Emeralds. The Sox return home Friday to start an eight-game home stand, beginning with three games against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
