Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - Just hours after slipping his Vancouver Canadians jersey on for the first time, RHP Roberto Osuna dazzled in his debut striking out a franchise record 13 over his five innings of work yet the Everett Aquasox would rally late to stun the C's for five runs in the bottom of the 9th inning and a walk-off single from CF Jamodrick McGruder in the bottom of the 10th for a 7-6 win over Vancouver.

Osuna, just 17 years old, limited to Everett offense to just one hit while striking out 13 in his first Northwest League outing. RHP Marcus Stroman pitched a pair of scoreless innings striking out two helping Vancouver take a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the 8th inning.

The Aquasox and Canadians would trade runs heading to the bottom of the 9th inning where manager Clayton McCullough would bring RHP Matt Johnson into the game in hopes of securing the victory. Johnson would give up a leadoff single to DH David Villasuso before striking out both 2B Brock Hebert and RF Rich Palase to get the Canadians within an out of a 6-1 victory.

LF Mike Faulkner and CF Jamodrick McGruder would then manage base hits to load the bases before SS Ketel Marte would hit a line drive right at Canadians 2B Dan Arcila to end the game, but Arcila would mishandle the ball and have it scoot off his glove and into shallow right field allowing both DH David Villasuso and LF Mike Faulkner to score cutting the lead to 6-3 with runners and first and third base.

McCullough would go to his bullpen once more grabbing reliever RHP Zack Breault who would face Seattle Mariners 1st round selection C Mike Zunino who proceeded to hit a 1-1 fastball off the scoreboard at Memorial Stadium tying the game at 6-6.

In the top of the 10th inning, Canadians SS Jorge Flores would lead off with a single to right field and move over to third base on a single from RF Nick Baligod with no one out. Everett RHP Mark Bordonaro then buckled down and got 1B Art Charles (strikeout), LF Matt Newman (groundout) and DH Jason Leblebijian (strikeout) to strand the pair of runners.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, DH David Villasuso would hit a one out single to center field and eventually come around to score on a walk off single from CF Jamodrick McGruder to give to Aquasox the improbable 7-6 victory over the Canadians.
