
Bears Shut out in Spokane 7-0

The Yakima Bears lost 7-0 to the Indians Saturday night at Avista Stadium in Spokane. With no runs on the night, the Bears suffered a shutout loss for the fifth time this season.
Bears starting pitcher Alex Carreras took the loss, as he allowed two earned runs in the second and two more in the sixth inning. Carreras gave up four hits and five walks in five and two third innings. In the second, the Indians loaded the bases and then scored two on a Gabriel Roa single. In the sixth, Smerling Lantigua hit a triple to drive in a run and Carreras was pulled. Reliever Blake Forslund allowed Lantigua to score on a wild pitch, but Forslund didn't have any runs charged to him in one a third innings.
The Indians finished the scoring in the eighth inning, which was Bears relief pitcher Chase Brewer's only inning of work. A walk and three hits, including two doubles, produced three runs for the Indians. In all, the Bears pitchers combined to walk nine batters.
Yakima was outhit 7-5 in the loss. Yogey Perez-Ramos went 2-for-3 with a walk and Josh Parr finished 2-for-3 with a double. Bears batters tied a season high by combining for 12 strikeouts in the game. The loss was also the largest of the season for Yakima, as the Bears had never fallen by more than five runs prior to Saturday's 7-0 defeat.
The Bears, Indians, and Boise Hawks are now in a three-way tie for first place in the Northwest League's East Division at 3-2 in the second half of the season. The series in Spokane between the Bears and Indians is tied at 1-1 going to the finale Sunday, which is scheduled for 6:35. Bears left-handed pitcher Daniel Watts is expected to start against Connor Sadzeck, a right-handed pitcher for the Indians.
