'Sox Bounce Back in Extra Innings, 3-2

EVERETT, Wash. - After remaining tied 2-2 for most of the game, Austin Shenton capitalized on a passed ball in the top of the 11th to win the game, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Hillsboro struck first when Corbin Carroll tripled in the bottom of the first, scoring on a fielding error. AquaSox David Sheaffer led off the top of the third with a line-drive single to left field. One out later, Zach DeLoach hit a home run to right-center field, putting the Frogs ahead 2-1.

The AquaSox lead was brief; Buddy Kennedy hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, 2-2.

Going into extra innings, both teams started the 10th inning with the last batted out on second base. Still tied in the top of the 11th, Shenton advanced to third after a deep fly ball to right field from Kaden Polcovich. With Shenton in scoring position, he took home on a passed ball.

RHP Brendan McGuigan retired three Hops in a row in the bottom of the inning with two strikeouts and one fly out to center field, securing the AquaSox' 3-2 victory.

WRAPPING IT UP

At the plate, the Frogs registered five hits with one triple and one home run. DeLoach went 2-for-3 with two walks and his two-run homer in the top of the third game the Frogs their first lead of the season. On the mound, AquaSox pitchers retired 14 consecutive Hops starting in the bottom of the third. RHP Levi Stoudt started, pitching four innings with seven strikeouts. RHP Fred Villarreal was on the bump for three innings, facing only nine batters. RHP Jarod Bayless walked one, struck out one and allowed one hit in two innings and McGuigan closed the game, striking out three and walking one in two innings.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Frogs return to Ron Tonkin Field on Thursday, May 6 at 6:35 p.m. for the third of six games against the Hops. Tune in to the game on KRKO! The AquaSox will play their first game at Funko Field since 2019 on Tuesday, May 11 at 7:05 p.m. against the Tri-City Dust Devils.
