Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, are proud to announce the signing of Bartlett, IL native and South Elgin High School graduate John Menken to a standard player's contract.
Menken, 22, joined the Boomers prior to a three game road trip against the Evansville Otters, in which the right-handed outfielder got off to a hot start in his professional debut. Having tallied four hits including a triple and a double in his first professional series, Menken's three-RBI performance in his professional debut this past Friday lifted the Boomers to a 7-4 victory over the Otters.
A 6'3" 220 pound outfielder, Menken was signed by the Boomers after a successful collegiate career that culminated at Winthrop University, where he posted a .283 batting average with 14 extra base hits and 31 RBIs in 44 games as a senior. Prior to his stint with Winthrop, Menken also played for Elgin Community College in 2013 and Southern Illinois University in 2012.
The Boomers (32-46) begin a six game homestand at Boomers Stadium August 18 against the Traverse City Beach Bums and Florence Freedom with 21 & Over Night presented by Lagunitas August 20, two nights of post-game fireworks August 21 & 22, and Bark in the Park presented by Lagunitas August 23.
Ensure your place in the fun by calling (847) 461-3695. All games can again be heard on AM 1410 WRMN with the voice of the Boomers, Tim Calderwood. Broadcasts begin with a 15-minute online only highlight show followed by a 15-minute pre-game radio show.
