SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced that it has re-signed midfielder Harry Shipp. Shipp, who was out of contract following the 2019 campaign, remains with Seattle for a fourth consecutive year after joining the club prior to the 2017 season. The 28-year-old started 15 of his 25 regular-season appearances in 2019, recording five goals and three assists.
Shipp celebrates his first goal of 2019 on April 21 at Los Angeles FC (Kevin Kuo / USA Today Sports).
"Harry has been an important member of our team the last few years and we are happy to bring him back for 2020," said Sounders FC General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. "He provides steady, consistent play and is a good veteran presence in our locker room."
Shipp came to Seattle via trade from the Montreal Impact in December of 2016 and has been a key contributor for Brian Schmetzer's club, starting 41 of 62 regular-season appearances over three seasons and tallying 10 goals and seven assists. Part of Seattle's 2017 MLS Cup runner-up squad and this past season's MLS Cup championship team, Shipp has appeared in five postseason matches for the Rave Green (starting three), recording two assists. Prior to coming to Sounders FC, the Notre Dame product spent three seasons with Chicago and Montreal, playing in 93 games while recording 12 goals and 17 assists, and was a finalist for 2014 AT&T MLS Rookie of the Year.
Sounders FC begins its 2020 preseason on January 14 at Starfire Sports before opening its campaign on February 20 in Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 action against Honduran side CD Olimpia. Seattle begins its 12th MLS season with a home match on Sunday, March 1 at 12:00 p.m. PT against Chicago Fire FC at CenturyLink Field.
