Seattle Sounders FC News Release

SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced that defender Román Torres has undergone successful left knee reconstruction surgery. The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert F. LaPrade earlier this week in Vail, Colorado. Torres is set to begin rehabilitation immediately following the procedure.

Torres, a 29-year-old defender from Panama, signed with Sounders FC on August 12 from Colombian side Millonarios and appeared in four matches for the club before suffering a left ACL tear during a September 12 match at the San Jose Earthquakes. The Panamanian National Team captain has 81 career international caps and recently led Panama to a third-place finish at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Following a pair of 3-0 wins over Vancouver Whitecaps FC - one in MLS play that secured the 2015 Cascadia Cup and one that clinched advancement to the Knockout Round of the 2015-2016 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League - Sigi Schmid's side heads back on the road to conclude a three-match MLS road swing at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, September 27 (2:00 p.m. PT / ESPN, SoundersFC.com, El Rey 1360 AM). Sunday's nationally televised match has significant postseason implications, as Sounders FC currently holds a one-point advantage over Sporting in the race for the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs.
